SHOCKHEADED PETER is a musical adaptation of the Der Struwwelpeter by Heinrich Hoffman, an 1845 German children’s book of short stories and poems about the disastrous consequences of misbehavior. SHOCKHEADED PETER features a sinister but incompetent master of ceremonies who leads the audience through the tale of a childless couple that has their fondest wish granted in the most delightfully dreadful way imaginable, accompanied by songs, puppetry, and vignettes in which the hilariously horrible fates that befall naughty children everywhere are brought to darkly comedic life.

NOTE: All roles are open to all races, ethnicities, ages, and gender identities.

CASTING BREAKDOWN
THE MASTER OF CEREMONIES – “I am the greatest actor that has ever existed.” Imagine, if you will, your favorite horror movie villain had side hobbies of hosting a children’s television show and performing in some low-quality Shakespeare in the Park.
THE SINGER – “The child of a sea siren.” The main singing role of the show. Imagine, if you will, your favorite television sidekick was really (and I mean REALLY) into singing songs based on terrifying German children’s literature from 1845. Falsetto not required.
THE ENSEMBLE (3 – 8 roles) – The bulk of the show. Includes Mother, Father, cats, puppets, birds, fish, fire, and the 10 naughty, misbehaving children, of course. Some mild singing, but no one said it had to be pretty.

TO AUDITION:
To be considered for the Master of Ceremonies and the Ensemble, please submit a recording of yourself reading one of the stories of Der Struwwelpeter** (link below) as the most over the top dramatic actor you can concoct. If you can play any or multiple musical instruments (guitar, ukulele, accordion, kazoo, triangle, etc.), show us a few bars of what you can do! If you have any puppet skills (even if it’s a sock puppet!) or any other special skills that you think are amazing, show us that too!

To be considered for the Singer, please sing up to 32 bars of a song, whether it be a song from another musical, this musical, or a creepy lullaby. This can be with a track, or self-accompanied. If you need an accompaniment track, contact Eileen Kuo eileen.kuo@gmail.com If you can play any or multiple musical instruments (guitar, ukulele, accordion, kazoo, triangle, etc.), show us a few bars of what you can do!
